One out of ten people in Qu\u00e9bec have some level of hearing loss. The Fondation Groupe Forget<\/strong> launched the En Action sans Audition challenge<\/a> to raise public awareness about the importance of hearing. Several performing artists from the province of Qu\u00e9bec will try to do their regular activities while experiencing a simulated moderate hearing loss. Alfa Rococo<\/a>, Dominic Paquet<\/a>, Tocad\u00e9o<\/a> and Trois gars su\u2019l sofa<\/a> were the first to face the challenge.<\/p>\n

Hearing loss often leads to a feeling of isolation. \u201cWe didn\u2019t have any reference points. We felt alone in the world. It was really scary to sing,\u201d acknowledged Benoit Biron of Tocad\u00e9o after the challenge. \u201cIf I had such hearing loss, I would really feel apart from the group,\u201d said Nicola Morel of 3 gars su\u2019l sofa.<\/p>\n

For Alfa Rococo, the hardest part was respecting the musical subtleties that define their style.<\/p>\n

Dominic Paquet was also very impressed by the experience: \u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable! I would have a hard time living like that. If I lost my hearing tomorrow, it wouldn\u2019t bother me at all to wear a hearing aid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several years ago, the international artistic community saw the birth of the Hear The World <\/a>initiative. Directed by Bryan Adams, several celebrity musicians\u2014including Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, Sting and Michael Buble\u2014posed for pictures to raise awareness about the importance of hearing. Indeed, without hearing there wouldn\u2019t be any music, theatre, movies or comedy shows.<\/p>\n

Today, the Fondation Groupe Forget<\/strong> is continuing the project with a Qu\u00e9bec twist. Stay tuned for more artists.<\/p>\n
